COLORADO MARSHALL FIRES

On December 30, 2021, Boulder County, Colorado experienced the most destructive wildfire in the state’s history. The Marshall Fire destroyed over 1,000 homes in Louisville, Superior and unincorporated Boulder County. Boulder County’s Resource Conservation Division was tasked with managing the recovery and activated DRC’s standby debris contract to conduct the first phase of the recovery to remove vehicles, hazardous trees, metals and debris from the right-of-way.

In February 2022, DRC was awarded the second phase of the project, the Private Property Structural Debris and Hazardous Tree Removal and began the project planning process with the County. This work included working alongside and in close proximity to utility companies, local township authorities, as well as county, state and federal environmental authorities. This process facilitated success for Boulder County’s goal of expediting the project while protecting public health, safety and the environment.
